Welcome!
I have been a therapist in practice for the past 15 years. As a master’s level social worker/psychotherapist, I began my career in reproductive medicine, supporting clients through fertility challenges, pregnancy loss and obstetrical trauma. After teaching in the department of Family Medicine, I expanded my practice to include most issues that one sees across the lifespan including mental health, relational challenges, grief and loss, adjustment issues, chronic stress and burnout, family of origin issues and health difficulties. For the past 5 years, I again expanded my practice to include couple therapy and sex therapy.
As well, I have specialized training in trauma and PTSD and have worked extensively with the Canadian Forces, Veterans Affairs, first responders, public safety personnel, and helping professionals. I am passionate about helping those with Operational Stress injuries to heal their trauma and reclaim their sense of safety, security and purpose in their lives.
Guided by curiosity, honesty, and care, my work focuses not only on easing distress, but on cultivating resilience, clarity, and a fuller sense of well-being—helping people move toward lives that feel more connected, balanced, and fulfilling. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and individualized. I recognize that each person’s experiences, strengths, values, and beliefs are unique. With an integrative approach we will work together to better understand your experiences, address concerns, build on your strengths, and create meaningful change. I can additionally offer empathy, non-judgmental compassionate care, recommendations, resources and skills to enhance your therapeutic journey.
My clinical approach integrates evidence-based techniques such as CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, emotion focused, somatic and solution focused therapies but I have an eclectic style, mixing modalities together to suit the client’s needs. Some clients benefit from practical strategies and focused problem-solving; others need more space to understand emotions, patterns, avoidance, or experiences that continue to shape the present. I am less interested in making a client fit a particular therapy model than in finding an approach that is understandable, useful, and relevant to the change they want to make. I am also holistic in my approach believing that mind, body and spirit are fundamentally interconnected and must work together.
Outside of the therapy room, you'll find me pursuing old fashioned pursuits including cooking, baking, sewing and quilting, listening to the radio, reading and gardening. I love spending time with my spouse and adult children and being outdoors in nature (preferably by a fire!)
I value connection, joy, and lifelong learning and strive to practice these every day—both in my personal life and in my work with clients. I’m looking forward to working with you!
